Hard Drive History
RecoverySoft / August 13, 2018

The hard drive is an important part of modern day computing, because it allows for information to be stored and then accessed at a later point. However, the modern day drive has its roots in technology that was developed over 50 years ago. The first drive was developed in 1956 and resembled what would look like a modern day air conditioning unit. The units of yesterday had extremely small storage capacities yet took up 100 times as much room. As technology evolved, the capacities of hard drives increased while they took up less and less space. The Early Days The first idea of a unit to store and receive data was imagined in 1953 by engineers at IBM. They recognized the need of a piece of hardware that could have high capacity, rapid access to the data, and be cheap to construct. The first technologies considered were wire matrices, rod arrays and even drum arrays. However, the disk drive was finally settled on as the unit of choice because of its ease of construction and easy mechanics. The first drive was the IBM 305 RAMAC system which could store 4.4 megabytes at a cost of $ 160,000 in today's money….

RecoverySoft / July 25, 2018

In any business, especially in an IT firm, data is one of the key elements used in running daily operations. There are several ways in which a firm can store and protect its data. In the past, disaster preparation would often require IT staff to travel to off-premise data centers and/or copy corporate data onto tapes. However, advances in technology and computing platforms have enabled the creation of better and more scalable data storage mechanisms. These have paved the way for complete Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solutions that can be used instead of internal IT teams. When data is breached or hacked into, uncontrollable losses will occur. To prevent this, many companies opt to have in place disaster response measures and even dedicated teams for managing such situations. Today, you’ll find two main categories of computing: cloud computing and hardware server-based computing. This includes the use of DRaaS or traditional backup methods to protect and store data. With current technology, DRaaS offers several advantages over traditional backup and disaster recovery methods. DRaaS is quite reliable and helps address many challenges, including mobility, portability and high performance, among other features. Traditional disaster recovery does not offer the capabilities that…

Important Upgrade for Every Computer and Backup Planning
RecoverySoft / June 22, 2018

One important upgrade every computer owner should perform is to have surge protection. Sure protection protects your desktop or laptop from a power surge that can happen during a storm. A surge protector is a piece of hardware that your computer is plugged into. The protector then plugs into the wall. Thus, it is an intermediary between your computer and the power outlet. The surge protector prevents dangerous levels of power from reaching your computer and causing overload problems. Here’s the scenario: You’re using your computer during an electrical storm. Lightning strikes and sends a high amount of power to your computer. With a surge protector, the surge protector notices the power is too high and prevents the high power from reaching your computer. Without a surge protector, the high voltage travels right to your machine, and you’re left to pray that it doesn’t overload your computer and cost you to have repairs performed. A surge protector can also prevent spikes that occur should the power go out and then come back on at a higher level. Thus, surge protectors are relatively cheap and are the standard in computer protection. A wise investment to be sure. The second topic for…

How To Permanently Delete Files?
RecoverySoft / June 15, 2018

To permanently delete a file it is not enough to press delete or to empty the recycle bin. Operating systems like Windows or Mac OS delete the file by marking it invisible and by releasing the disk space it was using. In fact, it is impossible to delete the file, you can only overwrite it with some other data. This basic principle of computer file system is used to undelete files. If we have, for example, accidentally deleted some file, we can recover it by using some undelete tool. If the data was not overwritten we can get the original file back as it was prior to deletion. For many computer users this behavior of files is not problematic. We don’t care what happens with the files after they are deleted. But there are cases when we care or at least we should care. When we would like to dump the old computer or donate it to somebody we don’t want to leave all the files on the disk. Deleting them or even formatting the disk does not solve the problem. With simple recovery tools it is possible to recover formatted partitions and deleted files. This is a problem because…
