Best Methods Of Data Destruction On Computer Hard Disk Drives
RecoverySoft / August 10, 2018

We are constantly reminded of the importance of recycling. In the ICT industry, recycling of computer equipment can be useful for educational or charitable organisations. It can however be detrimental to the previous owner. Charitable establishments such as Computer Aid International will refurbish computers for reuse in various sectors including education, health and other non-profit organisations for the benefit of developing countries. It would appear Computer Aid International ‘wipe’ each hard disk drive, which is good news as it hopefully provides some certainty that data cannot be retrieved. However, it is doubtful that the ‘average’ user realises the risks involved by selling their old computer on websites such as eBay. They may delete all their files, re-install the operating system (OS) and possibly format their drive, yet the data will probably reside on the disk, typically in unallocated space. Data fragments may be present that could be used maliciously in the hands of a criminal; indeed data from any source i.e. any electronic device could be used maliciously. Discarding computer equipment without due care could lead to irreparable, financial, political and personal damage to the owner or organisation. A recent study conducted by Glamorgan University (source: Time Online website) revealed…

Backup Software That Protects Your Data
RecoverySoft / June 18, 2018

Protect your data with backup software Hard drives are marked as reliable, but the reality tells a different story. It's only a matter of time until a hard drive crashes and you lose all your important data if you're not prepared. And even if your hard drive does not fail due to physical errors, virus attacks, software or user errors, even theft threats intervale increasing exponentially the probability of losing your data. So why do you need a backup software? In almost every industry it is well known that the cost of prevention is less than the cost of repairing / fixing what went wrong. Even so billions of dollars are lost every year because of data loss. This is why you need backup software, and you need to have your data protected. This way if the inevitable hits, you can easily restore data from your most recent backup. There are many backup programs out there, so choosing one might be a difficult task. In any case, when you choose a backup application you have to be sure that it will make backing up as easy as possible, so that it will not be a time consuming process on your…

Flash Drive Recovery
RecoverySoft / June 6, 2018

Flash drives or USB drives can be called as one of the most portable storage devices being used today. The variety of USB drive makers, and the wide range of storage capacities in which this device is available, has made it extremely popular among many users, since users have the freedom of choosing from this wide range, the flash drive that suits them the best. They are highly robust in nature, since the user can rewrite data over a million times on this device. Though the initial capacity in which these devices were available, was limited to 256 MB, over the years this has changed, considerably, and USB drives nowadays can hold up to 256 GB of data. These USB drives are used for storing various types of data like documents, photos, music files, videos etc. The user also has the option of running the operating system using a USB drive. Since the flash drive comes with a USB interface, it can be easily plugged into the USB slot provided on the users PC, or any other device that provides a USB slot. The absence of moving parts makes transfer of data easier and quicker in this device. Since moving…

Configure Exchange E-Mail Server Reverse DNS and MX Records Correctly
RecoverySoft / May 2, 2018

If DNS is setup incorrectly, over time your mail server IP will be added to blacklists. Nowadays most E-Mail servers have some kind of spam protection service which in turn means that all your inbound mail will be blocked if you do happen to be listed on a spam blacklist. In this article I will describe how to correctly configure your MX and reverse DNS records for your mail server. This article is based on an Exchange 2003/2007 server but every other messaging server will follow the same principle. Assigning an IP address Starting from the bottom up the first thing you need to do is assign a static external IP address to the internal private address of your mail server. You will need to apply these rules on your firewall to port forward SMTP (port 25) and NAT an external IP address to the internal address of the server. Something that a lot of administrators forget to do or check is to set the outgoing NAT rule to use the same external IP address created for the inbound rule to the mail server. If this isn’t set, Reverse DNS will not match and in turn your mail server will…

Communication in Addiction Recovery – Twelve Guidelines for Family Feelings Meetings
RecoverySoft / March 19, 2018

Families just do not know what to do with themselves when the alcoholic or addict gets sober. The first year of recovery is a time of confusion, joy, fear, anger, sadness, happiness-in short a full range of emotion. Most families do not what know to expect in that first year. They know the addict has gotten sober and that something has changed in the system. They know, too, that they are expected to change. But they may not be sure how they are supposed to be changing and what they are supposedly to be doing differently. Before treatment and recovery, there were "Do not Trust, Do not Talk, Do not Feel" rules. Now, it seems that they are being encouraged by everyone to talk about feelings. Spouses may not trust the recovering alcoholic / addict with their feelings. They may be concerned that their feelings will be used against them. They may expect old behavior from the addict. Children will also have "trust issues", but they may not have even learned how to identify their feelings. They may have experienced the other parent making excuses for the addict when they tried to say how they felt about the drunken parent's…

Mechanical Disk Failures First of all heavy mechanical failures need professional assistance, data recovery products can help when the problem is not due to a serious mechanical problem. Prevention of Data Loss Prevention is always your best option. Backup all the data you can Two Types of Data Recovery Problems Human Error We differiate usually between two types of data loss. The first one is human error. You accidently delete a file and empty the trashcan. Other sources of problems are the disk partitions. For example you make one partition for the windows or other operating system and one or more others for your data. After a while you think it's time for a fresh install of your operating system and you format the wrong partition. Do not think that this only happens to idiots, I've talked to savvy system administrators that made this mistake. Under this category we include strange occurrences on disks mostly due to the interaction between today's complicated operating systems, application and hardware.
