Hybrid Cloud Storage: A Tiered Approach
RecoverySoft / August 14, 2018

Hybrid Cloud Storage For hybrid cloud storage, data mostly resides within the private portion of the cloud. If apps are also deployed within the private cloud, the data store may store files and data for these apps, this should be the highest-performing storage system within your entire hybrid cloud storage strategy. It's all about time and money The costs of local and cloud data persistence is now so inexpensive that using secondary means, even tertiary mean, of storing data as an active backup system for primary persistence, or even as an up-to-date copy of the primary storage, is the best approach. With a few exceptions. In the hybrid cloud storage strategy, the secondary storage system exists in the public cloud. Data is replicated or moved to a public cloud storage system, my preference is as Amazon Web Services' (AWS) Simple Storage Service, to provide active backup for the primary storage system. In other cases, an enterprise may move older data to the public cloud to free up space in primary storage. AWS Glacier would be a great example. If a secondary storage system is used to store data moved from primary storage, be sure to design your apps to look…

Windows Password Reset – What to Do If You've Forgotten Your Windows Administrator Password
RecoverySoft / August 9, 2018

There are only two ways to regain access to your PC if you've forgotten your Windows Administrator password. The first is to reinstall Windows and totally wipe everything from your computer … and the second is to use a "password reset" program that will reset the password for you. Here's what to do: Method 1 – Reinstall Windows – If you've got nothing to lose from your computer, and have the knowledge to do it, you may wish to reinstall Windows to gain access to your PC again. The only problem with this method is that reinstalling Windows literally means you will lose every file and every piece of data on your PC. This is okay for some people and if you are interested in using this method, you simply need to insert the Windows disc into your PC, reboot your system and select "Boot From CD" in the BIOS options. If you do not understand how to do it, then you need to talk to a computer technician. Method 2 – Use Password Reset Software – The most common way to restore access to your PC is to "reset" the Administrator password for your system by using a piece…

Configure Exchange E-Mail Server Reverse DNS and MX Records Correctly
RecoverySoft / August 7, 2018

If DNS is setup incorrectly, over time your mail server IP will be added to blacklists. Nowadays most E-Mail servers have some kind of spam protection service which in turn means that all your inbound mail will be blocked if you do happen to be listed on a spam blacklist. In this article I will describe how to correctly configure your MX and reverse DNS records for your mail server. This article is based on an Exchange 2003/2007 server but every other messaging server will follow the same principle. Assigning an IP address Starting from the bottom up the first thing you need to do is assign a static external IP address to the internal private address of your mail server. You will need to apply these rules on your firewall to port forward SMTP (port 25) and NAT an external IP address to the internal address of the server. Something that a lot of administrators forget to do or check is to set the outgoing NAT rule to use the same external IP address created for the inbound rule to the mail server. If this isn’t set, Reverse DNS will not match and in turn your mail server will…

Benefits of Disaster Recovery As a Service
RecoverySoft / August 6, 2018

In any business, especially in an IT firm, data is one of the key elements used in running daily operations. There are several ways in which a firm can store and protect its data. In the past, disaster preparation would often require IT staff to travel to off-premise data centers and/or copy corporate data onto tapes. However, advances in technology and computing platforms have enabled the creation of better and more scalable data storage mechanisms. These have paved the way for complete Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solutions that can be used instead of internal IT teams. When data is breached or hacked into, uncontrollable losses will occur. To prevent this, many companies opt to have in place disaster response measures and even dedicated teams for managing such situations. Today, you’ll find two main categories of computing: cloud computing and hardware server-based computing. This includes the use of DRaaS or traditional backup methods to protect and store data. With current technology, DRaaS offers several advantages over traditional backup and disaster recovery methods. DRaaS is quite reliable and helps address many challenges, including mobility, portability and high performance, among other features. Traditional disaster recovery does not offer the capabilities that…

The Importance of a Backup Recovery System
RecoverySoft / August 2, 2018

When a business has serious computer issues, it can result in a serious loss of money and time, unless you have a backup recovery system. Computers have become the core instrument for storing business data. If the computer system that is being used breaks down, then that business can come to a virtual standstill. This is why it is important for a system to be in place to recover deleted files. No one likes having to recreate information and work that has been previously done. Unfortunately, unless a recovery method is implemented, most times this is what has to happen. In the event that information has been deleted and there is no backup recovery system in place, there may be other options. Many companies have found that data recovery software can help them retrieve the lost data and save them precious time in having to recreate the information. If the data has been previously backed up, then the recovery process is relatively simple, but this is not always the case. There are also companies that specialize in recovering lost data from damaged computers and hard drives. The techniques for recovering lost data vary. It really depends on the type of…

The Zen of Recovery
RecoverySoft / July 27, 2018

Addiction. It is probably the most horrific word I can think of in the English language. It is the thing that altered my entire life and almost rendered a further life impossible for me. I went from a successful writer and editor to a convicted felon within a very short space of time, 24 hours to be exact. That's all it takes, after all, one day, just 24 hours to turn from whatever you once were to someone you no longer know. The addiction itself of course grew and evolved over the course of a few years, but the cataclysm of change took only one day. Officially, I call myself "Lady Lazarus," although the descriptor is not mine. I owe Sylvia Plath for that name because she wrote an awe-inspiring poem of the same title. But, I use that name because technically, I am a woman who came back from the dead, much like Lazarus in the Bible. I was a respected, well-liked, quiet, and by all accounts decent woman when I started ingesting large quantities of Xanax for my anxiety problems. (I had no idea that I had a lot more than "anxiety." In fact, I had a full-blown…
