The Purpose of Anti-Virus Software
RecoverySoft / September 21, 2018

Anti-virus software is software that you install on your computer so that you can be alerted when you have a virus. Anti-virus software will help to keep your computer safe against worms, viruses, Trojan horses, and other uninvited programs. The software can also help you clean your computer if you should happen to have a virus. The important thing to remember about anti-virus software is that you make sure to update it often so that you get the latest computer virus definitions installed into the software program. There is no point in having the anti-virus software if you’re not going to update it. You’ll be able to get updates from the vendor that sold you the anti-virus software, such as Norton. Many times you may already have anti-virus software on your computer in which case you be sure to uninstall it before installing your new software. To find out if you have virus software check under your Start menu to see if you one listed, such as McAfee or Norton. Keep in mind that just because you have anti-virus software already installed on your computer that it (1) might not be working, and (2) hasn’t been updated for a long…

MRFS – Materials Recovery Facilities and Recycling
RecoverySoft / September 21, 2018

When many of us see the term MRFs we think that the official name for these facilities is a Material Recycling Facility, and this in many ways is what they are. However, waste management professionals will tell you that the correct term for them is Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs). MRFs are a waste management option specifically linked to recycling, bridging the gap between collection of recyclables and reprocessing. However, it has not strictly been correct in many districts in the past to have said that they were strictly for the purpose of recycling. Both within and outside Europe (the EU) a proportion of the waste is now and will be for the foreseeable future, sent to landfill. In a commercially based and unregulated MRF only those materials which could potentially be recycled by the operator would be. However, due to public pressure and in principle environmentally sound reasons in most parts of the world it has been found that recycling should not just be a large voluntary activity carried out only where the market provides an economic benefit from such recycling. Due to risk and price volatility in the recycled materials market, without governance encouragement, recycling has simply just not…

Computer Backup: Are You Willing to Roll the Dice?
RecoverySoft / September 18, 2018

It is estimated that about 90% of households have at least one computer in the home. Computer Industry Almanac reports that at the end of 2011, there were 310.6 Million computers in use in the US. Studies suggest that the average adult spends between 5 – 8 hours on the computer per day between work and home. I believe that it is safe to say that computers play a huge part in our lives. Computers are interwoven into just about every aspect of our lives. We use them to pay bills, preform business transactions, connect with our loved ones and the world. We use them to play games, check the weather, gamble, make travel arrangements and the list goes on. In the process of doing all those things, the computer has also become a place where we store important documents and pieces of information, as well as priceless memories, making computer backup essential. We want to keep our cherished memories and data for the long term. Computer backup is simply the storage of your computers files on a medium other than hard disk. The process is done in order to protect your valuable information in the event it becomes inaccessible…

What Causes Runtime Error 6?
RecoverySoft / September 18, 2018

Runtime error 6 is an “overflow” problem that may happen for one of a handful of reasons. Runtime error 6 can occur when data gets too big for its britches. This “overflow” problem can happen when, somewhere along the way, data has been entered that is too big for its data field. What does this mean in plain English? Let’s say you’re working with Microsoft Access (a database program). You have to put information into various fields (boxes), when some of these boxes are pre-set to only accept certain values. (This can be arranged for a variety of reasons; there is no need to go into the specifics here, as it would require several articles!) If one of these fields is pre-set to accept values of only 0-255, you’d cause an overflow error if you accidentally entered, say, 377. Now of course you wouldn’t do this. However, sometimes programmers make mistakes. Sometimes a program must generate a random variable and it could be that the parameters on the generator are too wide (it generates larger numbers than it should). Nevertheless, sometimes this doesn’t happen until it’s a bit too late. That’s why searching for updates, patches, and new versions/upgrades to…

Data loss due to computer crashes or virus attacks are common problems, occurring at random points in life, but still we take it as an unpleasant surprise and all because we are ignorant to the fact that data loss happens. You now need Data Recovery. Data recovery is a complicated process of salvaging data from a malfunctioning secondary storage device due to the occurrence of any physical or logical damage in the storage media. RecoverySoft / September 16, 2018

If you have multiple computers at home and want to network them together to share files and devices then this article is for you! In this article I'll show how to setup file sharing in a mixed environment maintaining Windows 7 and Windows XP. The computer that will be sharing (serving) the files will be the Windows 7 computer. The computer that will be accessing the shared files on the Windows 7 PC will be a Windows xp computer. This article assumes that you either: A: have your internal software firewalls disabled since they can often obstruct network access. Only do this if you access the internet through a router (or a wireless router). Egypt B: know how to allow network access to your internal subnet. Since you're reading this article it's pretty safe to assume that you have no idea what I'm talking about in point B. Just go ahead and turn off your firewalls (for now at least). On your Windows 7 computer: 1. Click the Windows globe on the bottom left (the old start button). 2. Right-click "Computer" and click properties. 3. Take note of the Workgroup name. On your Windows XP computer: 1. Click Start. 2….

Rectification Of Accounting Errors
RecoverySoft / September 16, 2018

Accountants prepare trial balance to check the correctness of accounts. If total of debit balances does not agree with the total of credit balances, it is a clear-cut indication that certain errors have been committed while recording the transactions in the books of original entry or subsidiary books. It is our utmost duty to locate these errors and rectify them, only then we should proceed for preparing final accounts. We also know that all types of errors are not revealed by trial balance as some of the errors do not effect the total of trial balance. So these cannot be located with the help of trial balance. An accountant should invest his energy to locate both types of errors and rectify them before preparing trading, profit and loss account and balance sheet. Because if these are prepared before rectification these will not give us the correct result and profit and loss disclosed by them, shall not be the actual profit or loss. All errors of accounting procedure can be classified as follows: 1. Errors of Principle When a transaction is recorded against the fundamental principles of accounting, it is an error of principle. For example, if revenue expenditure is treated…

Password Recovery on the Cisco ASA Security Appliance
RecoverySoft / September 16, 2018

In this article, I’ll explain how to perform a password “reset” on your Cisco ASA security appliance. The more commonly used term for this procedure is “password recovery” which is left over from the days when you could actually view passwords in configuration files in plain text. Today, such passwords are encrypted and not actually recoverable. Instead, you will gain access to the appliance via the console port and reset the password(s) to known values. This procedure requires physical access to the device. You will power-cycle your appliance by unplugging it at the power strip and plugging it back in. You will then interrupt the boot process and change the configuration register value to prevent the appliance from reading its stored configuration at boot. Since the device ignores its saved configuration on boot, you are able to access its configuration modes without passwords. Once you’re in configuration mode, you will load the saved configuration from flash memory, change the passwords to a known value, change the configuration register value to tell the device to load its saved configuration on boot, and reload the device. Caution: As with all configuration procedures, these procedures should be tested in a laboratory environment prior…
