I got a question, my external hard drive, (seagate 2tb back up plus portable drive) just makes a single beep noise every two seconds. whenever i plug it in on my laptop, it makes the noise it usually makes when you connect a usb in but it's not on My Computer. even when i right click on manage on My computer, it's not there on Disk manager under Storage BUT when i go to device manager and click under drivers, there it is. I just want to know a way to access the files and just put them on my desktop before this is completely dead

  • ThePaintedLady April 30, 2018 at 8:19 pm

HI there, I have a WD My Passport Ultra (3.5 inch). The hard drive 'died' the other day, and I got a quote from Best Buy that it will cost $1600 to recover my data from this device. Other YouTube videos I've watched have said you're basically screwed if you have a WD product, there are no easy fixes. I just want to know what my my options are because I have no backups of my photos that are on there but literally cannot afford to pay a premium for recovery services. I thought at worst this was going to cost a few hundred, not over a thousand to fix.

  • nikita prokhorov April 30, 2018 at 8:19 pm

Once you replace the heads, why can't you just connect the drive to the computer and copy it to another hard drive? Assuming the data isn't encrypted, shouldn't you be able to just read the drive as you would a normally functioning drive? Is there a reason why you need to image it?

Erkin, Thanks for taking my call today! You are one awesome guy! I really appreciated your high level of customer support. If I ever need more help in the future I will be calling you again!!!

  • Jay Walt April 30, 2018 at 8:19 pm

What kind of redundancies do you have for the imager? Does it have a RAID in case of drive failure (That would suck!). Also do u keep images of customer data in the event the returned drive (or whatever medium they choose to get their data) is lost or damaged in the mail? I never know how long to keep customer data when their PC has failed and they want their data from their old drive.

  • Enrico Ricci April 30, 2018 at 8:19 pm

I love your content! How do you get the encryption algorithms to be able to decrypt the drives?
