Data Disasters – Horror Stories of Data Loss

June 4, 2018

Recovery Coach Interviews at Malden High School

The threat of data loss exists with almost every click of your mouse. Life in the online world can be dangerous. Smart businesses will do whatever is required to minimize that risk.

Have you ever lost all of the data on a floppy disk and had to redo an entire afternoon’s work? Perhaps you have rendered a music or game CD unusable because of a tiny scratch? Maybe you have experienced a full fledged hard drive meltdown that resulted in gigabytes of lost data and months, even YEARS of lost effort.

The “worst case scenario” happened to me a few years ago. I received a call from a friend informing me that my home had been broken into and the burglars had not only stolen the electronics in the living room but had also taken the house’s PCs. I learned the hard way that data backup is something that every computer user who has important data on their hard drive cannot live without. Whether you simply purchase an external drive that you can connect via USB or Firewire, or sign up for offsite secure data backup, make sure you take steps to guarantee that your data is safe and sound, even if the worst happens to your computer hardware.

It doesn’t hit you right away when you no longer have access to your data. The first things that come to mind are the expensive hardware that went into building your machine. Maybe you had a nice flat panel monitor or a state of the art video card for playing the latest games. While it can be very disappointing to lose expensive tech goodies like these it is still no comparison to losing those zeros and ones etched into every user’s hard drive. Hardware can nearly always be replaced, even at no cost to you if you have insurance, but lost data is gone forever. There is no way to recover data that you have not backed up if you lose the original media it was stored on.

In my case, I was not using offsite secure data backup, or any kind of backup for that matter. My backup was about six months old and sitting on a tape drive in my closet. When those thieves walked off with my machine they left with not only an excellent gaming platform but also my entire web design portfolio, numerous customized versions of my resume, THOUSANDS of MP3 files that I had ripped from CDs (many of which I had lost the original CD for), Microsoft Money files, and thousands of digital photographs that are impossible to replace.

Take a moment and think about all the important digital files you have on your computer and ask yourself if it is worth investing a little of your time and money in an online remote backup solution to make sure that data is available for you for a lifetime.

Your DATA is your LIFE. Protect it!

I used this to reset and wipe clean my Tf300. I forgot my password. I held down the volume down button left side of volume button then at the same time held down the power button. As soon as I saw tiny words on top left of screen I let it go. Then i used the down volumn button to navigate to the wipe clean logo. I used the volumn up button to select it. The process will begin. May take up to 2 minutes but should be much less. Follow the directions to select the WiFi option you would like, email, and so on. Good Luck 🙂

I have the ASUS TF300T and I did step by step all that you said in the video. My problem is in the final proces, that keeps frozen in the same screen of your tablet at second 7:40 of your video. It doesn't launch the recovery.

Sorry for my "english", but i need your help.

    Thanks a lot.

Having a bit of trouble with this. From the start.   I let windows/tablet auto install driving to my computer, I downloaded the bootloader unlocker to the tablet and unlocked the tablet.  (4.2 JB)    I installed fastboot to the computer like a few other sites say.    Im to the point where I have to turn off the tablet and power on V down.  When I do that it displays
Key driver not found.. booting os
    android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "us_epad-10.6.1.27.5-20130902" a03
    starting fastboot usb download protocol

then I see a RCK, Android, Wipe Data

Ive read  in a few places that you can still do the fastboot recovery stuff so I tried based of your video. with CMD and I get a waiting on device.     as far as I know all drivers are installed   every thing is just sitting there ideal

  • Anna OwO June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

My tablet is already rooted and I wanna switch from TWRP recovery to CWM. Will this work for me alright? I'm running the stock JB ROM.

  • Michal Svatoš June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

Tip: When you're in windows file explorer – hold shift and right click –> "Open Command Window Here". You don't have to do all the "cd mydesiredfolder" stuff 😉

  • Daniel Molev June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

I don't have the usb icon when I try to get into recovery mod, instead I have RCK icon. When I click on it it gives me error. What do I do?

  • David Porter June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

Painfully followed this process to the letter. Unable to complete.  There's no Flash Icon and the ClockworksMod recovery fails to boot every time, and yes I quickly hit the volume up button. Sucks.

  • Cristi Bolotnicov June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

  • Noro Mesropyan June 4, 2018 at 3:19 am

Everything goes Ok till the last moment, when I need to enter CWM recovery… I do the thing with cmd, than I power my tablet off, and press vol down and pow buttons. And now instead of being in the CWM recovery, I still get into my old recovery… I would be glad if you helped 🙁
