Nurse’s Attitude and Patient’s Recovery
RecoverySoft / February 2, 2019

I was on my summer clinical in medical surgical ward. That was my first day of the clinical and I was assigned in Semi private ward. It is expected from a staff nurse to do the head to toe assessment of every patient to whom she has been assigned. Being a student nurse my initial responsibility is to help out the staff in her routine work and care for the patients as well. I started my work by helping the staff nurse in head to toe assessment of patients. It was going smoothly. We both did assessments of eight patients together and I was now feeling comfortable in doing the assessments. As we went near to room 5, I smelled some obnoxious odor. We went inside the room. There was no patient on bed no 5-A. The nurse told me to wear gloves, gown and mask as the patient was on airborne and as well as on contact precaution. I obeyed her. When we removed the curtain from bed no 5-B, we were shocked to see a female patient who was bombarded with skin blisters all over her body. There wasn’t any skin on her body and her body was…

Glycerine – Industrial Applications and Facts
RecoverySoft / February 2, 2019

Glycerine is commonly called glycerol or glycerin. It is a sweet-tasting alcohol that is colorless and odorless. It becomes a gummy paste when frozen, although freezing it can only be achieved at very low temperatures. It melts at 18 degrees Celsius and boils at 290 degrees Celsius. Its chemical formula is C3H8O3. It is miscible in water and alcohol. However, it does not mix with oil. It is an excellent solvent. In fact, there are substances that dissolve better in glycerol than in water or alcohol. The compound absorbs water from the air. This is why it is known as a hygroscopic substance. Suppose you leave a container of pure glycerine or glycerol in open air, it will become diluted as it attracts water molecules. According to a speculation, a drop of this liquid in the tongue can raise a blister because it would draw out water from deep into the tongue tissue. But this remains a clever speculation. The sweet-tasting alcohol is found in many skin moisturizing lotions and creams because of the water-retaining and water-absorbing capacity. Thus, it softens and smoothens the skin. It is believed, however, that this substance has other beneficial properties aside from simply moisturizing…

Hernia Repair Surgery
RecoverySoft / February 2, 2019

A patient develops a hernia when one of his organs protrudes through the cavity in which it is enclosed. Several types of hernias are common, including the hiatal hernia and the iguinal hernia. All corrective hernia surgeries proceed from the understanding that the torn muscle tissue has to be repaired and the protruding organ pushed back into place. There are, however, several ways in which this can be done, and all hernia repair procedures are divided up into two categories: tension suture repairs and tension free repairs. Tension suture repairs are the older, more traditional, ways in which hernias are treated, and they involve stitching the muscle closed. These methods were, however, found to be ultimately unsatisfactory as they placed the muscles under an unacceptable level of stress. The tension free repairs comprise closing the hole in the muscle tissue with a piece of surgical mesh, and there are three basic tension free repair strategies. Laparoscopic hernia repair is a minimally invasive technique whereby the mesh is placed on top of the muscle defect, and, while the Lichtenstein Repair also places the mesh on top of the defect, the surgery is performed under a local anesthetic through a 4″ incision….

Physicians recommend compression stockings for patients experiencing edema and vascular problems. There are several types of stockings that aid in patient recovery. Designed to increase circulation and reduce swelling in the legs, they are excellent for patients experiencing chronic venous problems. Different Types Compression hose, compression socks, knee-high, pantyhose and thigh-high are different types of compression stockings available. Other terms are anti-embolism, circular knit, custom, flat knit, lymphedema, silver and support socks. Designed to promote circulation and reduce swelling, each one is valuable in the health and well-being of patients. Why Are Stockings Used? The decision to use a support hose on a patient is based on the type of illness they have. How long the support remains in effect depends on when or if the patient shows signs of improving. Regular check-ups will help determine whether they are helping enough or if other avenues, such as surgery, might be needed. A physician or physical therapist determines the extent of the condition and makes an evaluation before recommending any support hose method to prevent further complications. Varicose Veins Varicose veins are often problematic for older patients and pregnant women. In the elderly, these types of veins can be troublesome and…

Health and Massage
RecoverySoft / February 2, 2019

Massage affects the body as a whole. To understand how massage therapy works, some of the physiological effects of massage need to be briefly examined. Massage is known to increase the circulation of blood and flow of lymph. The direct mechanical effect of rhythmically applied manual pressure and movement used in massage can dramatically increase the rate of blood flow. Also, the stimulation of nerve receptors causes the blood vessels (by reflex action) to dilate, which also facilitates blood flow. A milky white fluid called lymph carries impurities and waste away from the tissues and passes through gland-like structures spaced throughout the lymphatic system that act as filtering valves. The lymph does not circulate as blood does, so its movement depends largely on the squeezing effect of muscle contractions. Consequently, inactive people fail to stimulate lymph flow. On the other hand, the stimulation caused by vigorous activity can be outstripped by the increased waste produced by that activity. Massage can dramatically aid the movement of lymph in either case. For the whole body to be healthy, the sum of its parts – the cells – must be healthy. The individual cells of the body are dependent on an abundant supply…
